Tis’ the season to be merry, the holiday’s are upon us! It’s almost like a movie you’ve read the plot to before – we’ve had our Thanksgiving dinners and brunches, we have saved, planned for and spent our holiday savings on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and thrills! We have those big box items in the Amazon and Takealot carts online ready to hit checkout! We have dusted down every door buster for fragrances and BOGO (buy one get one) discounts.
Some of us are already poppin’ bottles celebrating the end of the year NOW with just over 2 weeks to go, the turn up is real! I’ve been there and I get it!
Make room for small Indie businesses in your budget
We should normalise diverting a percentage of the holiday stash to small Indie businesses, home-based businesses, boutiques and artists. We already frequent these spaces for various reasons. When we are budget ballin’ and want something trendy, affordable and cute that no one else is rockin’, we know where to shop! We know where to go get awesome (sometimes last minute) non-bank-breaking gifts for the ones we love.
It’s no just the actual shopping that means the world to these businesses, it’s also us frequenting their social pages, liking and hearting items and artwork.
I’m in no way dishing instructions on how to and where to spend the money you’ve earned, stashed, saved throughout the year, I’m just reminding you that those small boutiques often have the hardest months from October through January. Artists sometimes have to start holiday marketing in August because art is not an impulse purchase. These dedicated individuals put so much heart and sweat into their business. Small Business Saturdays for instance are very helpful in the Indie community.

Stores like Edenvinne Beauty, located in Menlyn Mall carry beauty products from local businesses. Beauty enthusiast and entrepreneur Johanne of Elite Beauty by Johanne.k has amazing lashes and other products in the store and she’s officially launching on the 16th of December.
